Welcome to the Stack’s Bowers Galleries Official Currency Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Winter Expo. It is almost impossible to believe that 2019 is nearly over. This sale represents the last live U.S. Currency auction of the year for us and what a great year it has been!
From Stack’s Bowers Galleries:
In the short time since we were last together for the ANA World’s Fair of Money our staff has put together another nice offering of U.S. Currency that spans quite a few genres. We are quite fortunate to have a number of great notes coming to the market for the very first time. These offerings include both National Currency discovery notes and U.S. large size type notes, fresh to the market from a decades old collection.
Within the pages of this catalog you will see great type rarities like the Fr.212f 1865 $500 Interest Bearing Note and Fr.150 1863 $50 Legal Tender Note along with exciting National Bank Notes that are being offered at auction for the very first time. Among these is a 1902 $10 Red Seal from the Farmers National Bank of Kingfisher, Territory of Oklahoma. A newly discovered serial number 1 1902 $10 Plain Back from the First National Bank of Rosebud, Montana (the first note to come forward from the bank) will be available to collectors for the first time. Small size specialists will appreciate a new to the census Choice Uncirculated 1928 $500 Gold Certificate that has resided in the same collection for more than 40 years.
In our obsolete currency section, we have been chosen to auction a very special collection of “Santa Claus” notes. This group was curated by the beloved Dottie Freeman, who the currency collecting family lost last spring. Additionally, obsolete enthusiasts will find a deep offering of Mormon related rarities, including notes from both the Kirtland Safety Society and the Deseret Currency Association series.
Please have fun browsing the catalog and we look forward to see you all in Baltimore!
