At the Whitman Baltimore Spring Expo, the Stack’s Bowers Galleries Sale made history, with a medal breaking the $1 million threshold in a numismatic auction for the first time ever.
Stack’s Bowers reports:
The company’s sale of the 1936 Nobel Peace Prize shatter initial estimates of $50,000-$100,000 when the medal sold for $950,000 at the March 2014 Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo. The additional buyer’s premium brought the final sale price to $1.16 million – more than 11 times what experts estimated it would garner.
